Markdown guide
How to write a page on FilianWIKI. Pages are written in Markdown, with a few additions for a wiki: links between pages, footnotes, cards, timelines and diagrams. Press Edit on any page to see how it is made, and Preview to check yours before saving. The community rules say what belongs on a page; this guide says how to write it.
Text
| You write | You get |
|---|---|
**bold** | bold |
*italic* or __italic__ | italic |
++underline++ | underline |
~~struck out~~ | |
==marked== | marked |
==red|marked in red== | marked in red |
||spoiler|| | spoiler |
((Ctrl))+((C)) | Ctrl+C |
`code` | code |
The colours for ==colour|text== are a fixed set: red, orange, yellow, green, blue, violet, pink and gray.
An empty line starts a new paragraph. A line that starts with # is a heading: ## Section, ### Subsection. The page title is the single # heading at the top, and toc on a line of its own puts a table of contents there.
Links
| You write | What it does |
|---|---|
filian | A link to the page at /filian |
Filian | The same link with your own text |
the wipe | A link to a section of a page |
[text](https://example.com) | A link to another site |
| Puts the page in a category; shows nothing |
:Category:VTubers | A link to the category itself |
A page address is lowercase letters, digits and dashes: bao-the-whale, vods-2025. A link to a page that does not exist yet shows that the page is missing, and anyone can start it.
Links work inside tables too: | Phase 0 | 2025 | stays in its cell.
Sources and footnotes
Every fact needs a source. Put a footnote mark where the fact is, and the source at the end of the page:
She reached one million followers on Twitch in September 2024.[^tw]
## Sources
[^tw]: "Filian". Virtual YouTuber Wiki (Fandom). <https://virtualyoutuber.fandom.com/wiki/Filian>
The marks are numbered in the order the text uses them, and the list of sources is gathered at the end of the page, so the name after ^ only has to be unique on the page. For a VOD, link to the moment: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ID&t=3777s.
Lists, quotes and tables
- a list item
- another
- a nested one
1. first
2. second
- [x] a done task
- [ ] an open one
> A quote.
| Date | Stream |
|---|---|
| 2025-12-09 | The last stream |
A quote that opens on a click starts with >! and its title, followed by > lines:
>! What she said
> It's time for me to go for a little while.
A note box:
> [!NOTE]
> This page is about the fan wiki, not the ARG.
[!TIP], [!IMPORTANT], [!WARNING] and [!CAUTION] work the same way.
Pictures and files
Upload a file from the editor or from Media, then use it by its name:

A picture opens in a viewer when a reader clicks it: zoom, rotate, full screen, and a link to its file page. Every file has a page with its author, its history and where it is used. Only files uploaded to the wiki show as pictures; a link to a picture elsewhere becomes a plain link. Fan art goes up only with the artist's permission and their name.
Emotes from the community's 7TV sets are written by name, such as :fillySmile:; Emotes lists them all, and the editor has a picker.
Blocks
A collapsible section
:::details Spoilers for the ending
What happened at the end.
:::
A pull quote
:::pullquote
"This show is going to be BIG."
:::
A side card
:::infobox Filian
Debut = 17 April 2021
Fans = Snackers
:::
Lines with Key = value become the rows; a row with nothing after = is left out. For a VTuber, the ready template Infobox VTuber is better: see Template:Infobox VTuber.
A timeline
A timeline is a block that starts with :::timeline and a title and ends with :::. Each event is a line with the date, |, and what happened; the lines under it describe it, in ordinary Markdown with links and footnotes. A ! in front marks a key event, and ## Label starts an era.
:::timeline Filian, the short version
## 2021
2021-04-17 | First stream on Twitch
In VRChat.[^first]
## 2025
! 2025-12-09 | Her last stream
The hardcore marathon with Neuro-sama.
:::
It looks like this:
Filian, the short version
- 2021
2021-04-17
First stream on Twitch
In VRChat.
- 2025
2025-12-09
Her last stream
The hardcore marathon with Neuro-sama.
The date can be any short text: 2026, May 2026, Phase 1.
Diagrams
A block marked mermaid draws a Mermaid diagram, and one marked dot draws a Graphviz graph. The wiki draws them on the server, for the light and the dark theme, and a reader can open them in the viewer.
```mermaid
graph LR
Filian --> Snackers
Filian --> Neuro[Neuro-sama]
```
Diagram source
graph LR
Filian --> Snackers
Filian --> Neuro[Neuro-sama]
Until the drawing is ready, and if it cannot be drawn, the page shows the block's text. Mermaid also draws timelines, sequences, mind maps and charts.
Templates
A template is a piece of a page kept in one place: Name puts it in. The usual ones:
| Template | Use it for |
|---|---|
Citation needed | A claim that still needs a source |
Sources needed | A page with too few sources |
Speculation | A theory or a guess |
Spoiler | A spoiler warning |
Disputed | A fact people disagree on |
Stub | A page that is only a start |
In progress | A page someone is writing now |
lore | "Main article" at the top of a section |
Category:Maintenance lists the pages these notices file. Every template has its own page with its fields and examples, under Templates.
HTML
A few HTML tags are allowed for things Markdown cannot do, such as <br>, , <span> and <div>, with a safe part of style (colours, borders, spacing, fonts). Scripts, frames, forms and positioning are removed.
Before you save
- Check the preview: links, footnotes, tables.
- Write a short summary of your change.
- If a page is protected, use View source to suggest the change.
- Not sure about something? Leave it out, or mark it with
Citation needed.
