The VTuber Awards

The VTuber Awards (also written The Vtuber Awards) is an award show for VTubers that Filian created and hosted. It was organized by her management company, Mythic Talent, with WePlay Studios as the production partner.¹ Two ceremonies were held, on 16 December 2023 and 14 December 2024, both streamed from WePlay in Los Angeles.^1,2

History

The idea and the announcement (2023)

Filian announced the show on 31 May 2023, a month after she signed with Mythic Talent: "It's been a dream of mine to bring the entire Vtubing community together. This show is going to be BIG."^3,4 She later explained the idea: "In every awards show, VTubers are often a footnote or sometimes treated as a unique, strange thing, and so the idea for these awards is like, 'Why not have a show for ourselves?'"⁵

The show was meant for every kind of VTuber, from agencies and independents, of any language and audience size.⁴ Nominations opened in November 2023, and as the host Filian could not be nominated for anything.⁶

The first ceremony (2023)

The first VTuber Awards took place on 16 December 2023 and were streamed on Filian's Twitch channel, for about five hours. Sinder and FalseEyeD hosted the pre-show.^1,6 Filian hosted from a green box at WePlay Studios in Los Angeles; the stage was virtual, built in Unreal Engine, after the plans for a physical stage were dropped.^2,5

The stream peaked at 38,417 viewers and passed 155,000 hours watched.² Ironmouse won three awards, the most of the night, among them VTuber of the Year.¹ Shylily presented the Miss VTuber award and won Best Chatting/Zatsu VTuber, and Vedal won Best Tech VTuber for Neuro-sama.¹

The second ceremony (2024)

The second VTuber Awards were held on 14 December 2024, co-hosted by Filian and Shylily and streamed on Filian's Twitch and YouTube channels.¹ For the first time the show had a halftime show: a 3D concert by Lumi Kaneko and Rinkou Ashelia of Phase Connect.¹ FUWAMOCO were named VTuber of the Year.¹ The organizers reported a peak of more than 89,000 viewers and 325,000 hours watched.⁷

Hololive talents won several awards that year, but none attended. Filian said the reason was "all of the laws between Japan and the US" around an awards show, and that the team hoped to include them the next year.⁸

2025 and after

On 5 August 2025 WePlay Studios said that it would no longer work on The VTuber Awards. The company linked the decision to Filian's joint project with a Russian VTuber, which it called inconsistent with its values.^1,4 Many Western fans criticized the decision as too harsh; Ukrainian audiences and media that call for a boycott of Russian projects supported it.¹

No ceremony for 2025 has been reported, and neither Filian nor Mythic Talent has said anything about the show's future. Filian has not streamed since December 2025; see Filian.⁹

How it works

• Nominations. Viewers send in nominations; in 2023 this ran from 8 to 20 November.⁶
• Nominees. The organizers choose the nominees in each category from the submissions; the 2023 list came out on 28 November.⁶
• Vote. Viewers then vote for one nominee per category; in 2023 voting closed on 11 December.⁶
• Hosts. The hosts cannot win: Filian in both years, and Shylily as co-host in 2024.^6,1
